A couple nights ago I went to my second true concert of my life. (First one was the Weakerthans) It was with Buck 65 and Cadence Weapon.
I hope that everyone who reads this knows who Buck 65 is. But for those of you who don't know who Cadence Weapon is, he's a rapper from Edmonton so he was playing to a home town crowd. Lately he's been getting a bit more publicity and he seems to be starting to make it big. One of his hit songs is called "Oliver Square" and those of you who live in Edmonton will understand why. My favourite song of his at the concert though was called "Listen" - at least that's what I thought it was called. Anyway - once again if you're from Edmonton you'll know what that's about too. For those of you who don't live hear I guess you're out of luck. Just kidding - I think it's actually quite interesting. Well, since a two years ago there have been pray painted graffited birds that say "listen" sprouting up all over the city. I don't think anyone really knows what that's about though...
Anyway, I said that this was my second concert of my life and it was definitely the loudest as well. It wasn't just Buck 65 and Cadence Weapon though - there was also a guy who calls himself Skratch Bastid. He was definitely the loudest part of the performance. He wasn't that bad. I liked some of it but some - not so much. He was all about the scratching and spinning (spin' it!) of records. Sometimes though all I could here were sharp, high pitched squeals that made me cover my ears. the Buck 65 part was awesome though! He played all the songs that I wanted to here. My favourite of all was Way Back When with the line - "Way back when, solid gold that song on the radio's nice!" and "back when we used to punch each other in the faces."
Anyway, it was an awesome concert. The strangest thing of all though was that all these rappers were playing in - a church!

Hey Isaac,
Glad you had such a good time at the concert. I also thought Buck was pretty amazing - and loved "Way back When". You should check on youtube and see if there are any old clips of the Solid Gold show that your mom and I used to watch way back when. You might find it amusing. :-)
Just catching up on my Isaac. I saw Buck 65, Cadence Weapon and Scratch Bastid here in Golden and you are right, they were amazing.
i saw the same 3 performers in golden, with cheryl - i agree with you about buck 65, as always, he was amazing, a true artist.
however, i have to disagree with your opinion of scratch bastid. eventhough i do have an issue with the duration of the samples he used (way to short to enjoy, before moving on to another - he was like a dj with ADD) i appreciated the ability he had to play technology with the precision and virtuosity that could be expected of any professional musician - whether they play a classical instrument or something more modern. I was truly impressed. jmho!
dana.
